Basic Weaving Course

The Basic Weaving course is designed for students new to weaving, those seeking a refresher on the basic techniques, or those just interested in exploring what weaving is all about. Each student will receive a course manual containing all the information covered in the class and upon completion of the course each will have compiled a notebook of samples for future reference. The course will cover:

  • Introduction to the parts and function of the loom
  • How to read a pattern draft
  • How plan and design a project
  • How to determine which yarns are appropiate for different types of projects
  • Calculating the amount of warp and weft needed for a project
  • Prepare a warp, and dress a 4 shaft loom for weaving
  • The differences between loom controlled and weaver controlled techniques
  • Finishing techniques
  • Problem solving

  • Open Studio time in addition to scheduled classes
