Beyond the Basics

The Beyond the Basics courses consist of workshops which concentrate on a specific weave structure or weaving technique. These are small 2 or 3 day classes that let the fiber artist explore realms of weaving that they have not yet encountered or want a better understanding of.

Color and Weave with a Painted Warp

This two day workshop will explore creating images and forms on a warp by dying specific ends and then using the technique of Color-and-Weave to make the magic happen. With this method it is possible to create a feeling of depth in a image. We will be working with cotton warp and silkscreen dyes. By the end of the work shop you will have completed several samples and have a notebook of all the instructions.

Class includes use of a prewarped loom, all dyes, templates and class material. See the Registration section below for more information.

Understanding Blocks

Expand your understanding of weaving drafts by getting your mind around blocks. Using blocks breaks down the overall structure of a weaving into individual design elements. There are many types of 'Blocks', some are design units as in Overshot, color units as in Rep Weave, or the grand daddy of them all, Profile Blocks. Come learn the differences and how to use them in your work. This is a round robin workshop format so you will complete several samples woven on different looms.

Class includes use of prewarped looms and all class materials. See the Registration section below for more information.
